PUBLIC POLICY

MOAEYC is an issue-driven, bi-partisan organization that represents Missouri’s early childhood education professionals. As such, MOAEYC works with both Democrats and Republicans to ensure that children and families are a priority in the legislative process.

MOAEYC: 

  • Supports the development of standards for early education
  • Provides training and professional development
  • Awards leadership stipends to state and national conferences
  • Offers resources and research in early education
  • Works for increased pay and benefits for all early childhood teachers
  • Helps teach the public about the role and value early childhood brings to the community, particularly through The Week of the Young Child activities, including children’s fairs and media coverage.
  • MOAEYC represents your best interests and concerns to officials who determine budgets, grants, regulations, licensing requirements, scholarships, educational programs, and more at the local, state, and federal levels.

MOAEYC representatives study issues and offer solutions to local, state, and national policymakers, education experts, and business leaders. They write letters, make personal visits, report to the legislators at committee hearings, and speak whenever possible to support the needs of teachers and children in the early education program.

Power to the Profession is a national collaboration to define the early childhood profession by establishing a unifying framework for career pathways, knowledge, and competencies, qualifications, standards, and compensation. AMERICA for EARLY ED

NAEYC and America for Early Ed believe that in order to fully deliver on the promise of high-quality early learning for all children, our country will have to prioritize and implement a bold family and values vision that is rooted in the early years by:

  • Ensuring that all families can choose among options that meet high-quality standards and afford the early learning setting that is right for them
  • Defining and fully funding access to high-quality early childhood education at scale, regardless of state or setting
  • Ensuring that early childhood professionals are diverse, effective educators, and leaders working within a compensation and recognition system that supports their excellence

POLICY BRIEFS 

To educate members and policymakers about early childhood issues, MOAEYC and NAEYC routinely develop policy briefs. MOAEYC’s policy briefs focus on state level issues while NAEYC’s policy briefs address national issues. Policy brief topics include early childhood workforce issues, Quality Rating Systems, child care subsidy, etc.
